Singaporeans, rejoice! The Circuit Breaker is finally easing up and life can resume to (new) normal. The best thing is, you can now take a break from staying in the confines of your own home. While international travel is limited and most countries still have their borders closed, you can instead enjoy a getaway in your own city. However, as we learn to maneuver through this pandemic, new regulations are being put in place and to that end, hotels in Singapore are playing their part diligently to ensure that you have a safe, clean and enjoyable stay.
To ease guests’ comfort, the Singapore Tourism Board has launched a new auditing initiative that measures hotel compliance with seven criteria for cleanliness. Properties will earn the SG Clean Quality Mark if they meet the standards and an “SG Clean” stamp will be placed prominently at their establishment. This will undoubtedly give guests peace of mind when staying at the hotel. The criteria for the SG Clean Quality Mark are as follows:
To earn the SG Clean Quality Mark, hotels will have to appoint a manager to oversee the implementation of cleanliness and hygiene practices, to ensure compliance with health and travel advisories, guidelines and government orders on COVID-19.
Hotels will have to set up a process to check employees’ temperature and look out for respiratory symptoms. Hotels also need to ensure that those who have visited COVID-19 affected countries with travel restrictions in place or are under an active Stay-Home Notice (SHN) or Quarantine Order (QO), are not present at the hotel.
Where feasible and applicable, hotels should have processes in place to check the temperature and look out for respiratory symptoms of tenants, contractors and suppliers. The hotel should also ensure that tenants, contractors and suppliers who have visited COVID-19 affected countries with travel restrictions in place or are under an active SHN or QO are not at the hotel.
The same also goes to hotel and event guests. The hotel should implement appropriate safe-distancing measures for guests.
One of the ways to ensure the guests’ safety and health is to step up the frequency of disinfection for all common facilities such as the meeting rooms, gym, swimming pool and spa. The hotel should also ensure that employees observe good personal hygiene.
In case there are any employees or guests who are suspected of COVID-19, hotels should ensure that they are well prepared and have procedures in place to manage the cases.
Hotels need to ensure that there are documents regarding the processes and they must record all preventive measures that have been taken such as temperature checking, disinfection for common areas as well as personal hygiene of the employees.
The hotel must follow government orders, guidelines and health advisories on the COVID-19.
Experts are saying that hygiene will be the most important aspect when traveling for the next two years. With this initiative taken by the Singaporean government, rest assured that your stay is protected. Through this program, the country hopes to enroll more than 37,000 businesses, from retail stores to restaurants and hotels, in the coming months.
