Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast: A stay that will have you rolling in style

Music fans, this hotel is made for you. Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast, which just opened in September 2018, is funky and has the signature rock-and-roll memorabilia in its premises that will have you ohh-ahh-ing throughout your stay. So, you’re a rock star wannabe with family in tow? Fret not, they won’t be bored. The hotel is just a short walk to the quiet and pristine beach, and is adjacent to the Adventure Waterpark Desaru Coast, location to  one of the world’s biggest wave pools! What could be better?

We’ll tell you more, just read on further!

It’s all about the music and livin’ la vida loca

Hard Rock Hotel Desaru CoastWe arrived at the lobby to The Smiths’ This Charming Man playing at the lobby. We knew right away this would be a fantastic stay!

Staying true to the hotel group’s reputation, the entire premise is decorated with art pieces that pay homage to music and rockstars. We were thrilled by the display of shoes and dresses of some of the world’s greatest performers including Rihanna, Madonna, Elvis Prestley and The Rolling Stones. Looking at them made us feel like we were really close to the celebrities!

The hotel lobby is bright and breezy, thanks to the open concept. We took a sneak peek of the wave pool behind the hotel, which actually looks like a real beach! It’s a pretty Instagrammable spot, we must say.

Hard Rock Hotel Desaru CoastWe quickly made our way to the room for some much needed R&R. Our deluxe room comes with a king-sized bed complete with the signature Hard Rock Hotel bedding (bliss!), a flat screen TV, and your standard coffee and tea making facilities. But what took our breath away was the butterfly mural on the wall. It’s bold and unique, a true Hard Rock trademark!

We particularly loved the reusable water bottles. They are sanitized and sealed after each guest use and water fountains are available on each floor for refills. It’s economical and environmentally-friendly, which we wholly support!

The bathroom is quite spacious too, with a walk-in wardrobe, while the shower cubicle is separated from the toilet. Toiletries and bath towels are provided so you don’t have to pack them into your luggage. Hooray, more room for your #OOTD clothes 😉

Hard Rock Hotel Desaru CoastIt’s not a Hard Rock Hotel if there’s no music. Here, you can request for a Crosley turntable that comes with a set of 10 iconic records of famous musicians from Michael Jackson to Bruce Springsteen. That’s not all. If you’re a wannabe rockstar, you could even request to borrow a Fenders guitar, which comes with Marshall headphones and a Fender Mustang floor amplifier to create a pop-up studio right in your own room! We’d have a jamming session, but alas, none of us could play the guitar so we settled for the turntable and danced the night away.

A gastronomic experience

Hard Rock Hotel Desaru CoastAlthough there is no Hard Rock Cafe on the premise, there are four F&B outlets available if you’re feeling hungry, no matter the time of the day. At Sessions, you’ll find an all-day menu of both local and international dishes. This music-inspired restaurant also serves an impressive buffet spread and à la carte items with a distinctive twist. Must-try items on the menu include the mee mamak, lamb biryani and signature smoothies.

Hard Rock Hotel Desaru CoastMeanwhile, The Elephant and the Butterfly is a Mexican poolside and bar where you can enjoy traditional Mexican cuisine with a modern twist. For instance, the chef’s special Mexican burger is juicy and tender, perfectly complemented with guacamole and spicy salsa. The portion is quite big too! You can also sip a mocktail by the poolside while enjoying the sunset. Good food and beautiful sunset? We couldn’t ask for anything better than this!

If you want to have light snacks and coffee, head over to the Constant Grind coffee bar where there’s a wide selection of ice cream, coffee, cakes and smoothies. The café is also super chill, where you can hangout with your loved ones or simply finish up some work.

Live music performances are held at the lobby lounge every evening. This cosmopolitan lounge, named GMT+8, is inspired by timepieces and time travel (hence its name), and you can have a drink or two while enjoying the performances.

Verdict: The hotel is perfect for music fans and we love the music memorabilia displayed all over the hotel. The display of costumes and accessories worn by famous rock stars was an unforgettable experience! We also give a big thumbs up for the hotel crew that made our stay an enjoyable experience. They were attentive, friendly and helpful. So, if you’re looking for a relaxing stay complete with a custom-made music playlist, Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast is for you!

It might be tempting to spend the whole day in the room, especially when you have your own jamming studio, but there are plenty of fun family activities around Desaru that you can do! Below, we’ve compiled three must-visit places while you’re here!

Adventure Waterpark Desaru Coast

Adventure Waterpark Desaru Coast is home to unique rides including the first-ever water coaster in the region and one of the biggest wave pools in the world! It consists of five splash-tacular zones, the waterpark features more than 20 wet and dry rides, slides and attractions! For ticket holders who are staying at the hotel, you’ll enjoy a private access to the theme park.

Teluk Sengat Crocodile Farm

Established since 1979, this crocodile farm is home to more than 1,000 of crocodiles, making it the largest crocodile farm in the country! Make sure to spot the toothless 130-year-old crocodile that spends its golden years sunbathing, oblivious to the curious onlookers. During feeding hours, visitors also get to hold baby crocodiles (under supervision, so, no worries!).

Desaru Ostrich Farm

Situated at Teluk Ramunia, the Desaru Ostrich Farm has more than 300 ostriches which you can get up, close and personal with. Throughout the visit, tour guides who are also the caretakers of the farm, will be there to assist you and explain some interesting facts about the place and the world’s largest bird. While you’re there, be sure to try the extraordinary ostrich egg which is served by the caretaker. Besides that, with an additional fee, you’ll have a chance to experience riding on an ostrich.

With such a wide range of accommodation options across the country, it can be a challenge to pick the one that’s best for you.
